Seed Starting Indoors
Purdue University Cooperative Extension (www.agcom.purdue.edu/AgCom/Pubs/pdflinks/HO-14.html) provides a comprehensive guide to starting seeds indoors. They feature a reference chart of how far ahead to start many favorite flowers and veggies. Also they have clear explanations about special procedures such as pinching and hardening off, and covers in depth all the basics of soil, pots, lighting, and actually planting the seeds. Whether you are a beginner wanting to know all the details before getting started, or have some experience but want to refine your technique, this is well worth a look.

Shows & Events

Philadelphia Flower Show
This year's theme at the Philadelphia Flower Show March 4-11 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia is "Great Gardeners of the World" and features a Mediterranean design by Penelope Hobhouse, Chanticleer's romantic English garden, and an Egyptian canal garden.

To call this ten-acre indoor extravaganza a mere flower show is a gross understatement. This is the largest annual indoor flower show in the world and the oldest flower show in the United States. Besides the above three fabulous features, there are countless exhibits, displays, a marketplace, a book fair, educational lectures, and demonstrations. Wear comfortable shoes for walking around.

"Flower Show Week" is celebrated citywide with over ninety special events and offers centered around a spring theme. For more information and tickets, check out the Web site at www.philaflowershow.com/index.html or call (215) 988-8899.
