Gardener's Latin
Gardener's Latin: A Lexicon, by Bill Neal (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 1992; $15), a self-described "compendium of definitions, facts and fables," is a delight in many ways. Unabashed linguists might revel in learning snippets of horticultural Latin for their own sake, but the rest of us are apt to be captivated by the botanical literary references and explanations and the lore and poetry, the line drawings, and other assorted learning aids that make the task so pleasant.

Web Finds

New Jersey Weed Gallery
Rutgers Cooperative Extension has gathered photos of many lawn and garden weeds seen throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, indexed them by both common and Latin names, and made a searchable database (www.rce.rutgers.edu/weeds/index.html. A brief informative note accompanies each photo in this excellent reference tool.
