Southern Living Garden Book
We gardeners know that no single book will adequately answer all of our gardening questions. However, if I were to recommend one landscape plant reference book for southern gardeners, it would be The Southern Living Garden Book, by Steve Bender (Oxmoor House Publishers, 1998; $35).

This book is an encyclopedia of over 5,000 southern plants. It includes information on each plant and a great discussion on southern garden zones. One of its prime features is an extensive guide to plant selection, including plants for areas that are shady, wet, or dry.
