Lasagna Gardening
Lasagna Gardening: A New Layering System for Bountiful Gardens--No Digging, No Tilling, No Weeding, No Kidding, by Patricia Lanza and Elayne Sears (Rodale Press, 1999; $16), gives detailed descriptions of layering mulch materials, such as old newspapers, fallen leaves, and grass clippings, to provide a nutrient-dense base for healthy gardens, a practice long known as sheet composting. Beginners will find good general information about raised beds, intensive planting, and related gardening techniques in this book.
