The Once and Future Gardener: Garden Writing from the Golden Age of Magazines, 1900-1940
For a splendid read as we move into the down season of gardening, this collection of magazine writing will keep your mind in the garden. It shows once and for all that most gardening ideas are not new, but timeless. This lovely book is worth perusing just for the reproductions of magazine covers if nothing else.

The Once and Future Gardener: Garden Writing from the Golden Age of Magazines, 1900-1940 Virginia Tuttle Clayton; Boston: David R. Godine, 2000. ISBN 1-56792-102-7
