Genetically Modifed Corn
University of Wisconsin genetics professor Jerry L. Kermicle has found a genetic barrier in a wild relative of corn that could ensure the genetic integrity of corn varieties that haven't been genetically engineered. Since corn easily cross-pollinates, putting this genetic barrier into hybrid corn will assure buyers that the corn isn't contaminated by genes from genetically engineered corn in nearby fields. The barrier will be bred into corn by traditional methods of cross-breeding rather than genetic engineering.
