Grow 100: Grow It Eat It's Food Garden Challenge
Enter the University of Maryland Extension's Grow It Eat It Program Food Gardening Challenge and show what your can grow in 100 square feet. Open to all gardeners -- city, suburban, and country; experienced and first-time gardeners; backyard, community, or school garden. And you don't have to be a Maryland resident. To help you get started, the website offers lots of examples and resources to help you. Pick one of three theme categories -- New to Gardening; 4-Rs (Reduce, Recycle, Rethink) Garden, or Maximum Production. Once you register your garden just share three scheduled updates during the growing season using their online form. Judging will be performed by the Extension staff and is not scientific; they're looking for good effort, good style, good planning, good photos, and good stories. Three prizes ($25 gift certificates) will be awarded after each of the 3 updates are submitted (June 15, August 15, October 15) to gardens that stood out because of high productivity, uniqueness, resourcefulness, or other qualities. Three grand prizes ($50 gift certificate and a Maryland Master Gardener handbook) will be awarded to one garden in each of three categories. Registration is open until June 15.
