Mission Blue Native Plant Sale
On Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mission Blue Nursery will hold its native plant sale. Part of San Bruno Mountain Watch, an organization that has been working diligently for over thirty years to protect and preserve San Bruno Mountain as the largest and richest remaining example of the native Franciscan bioregion, the Mission Blue Nursery was established to grow native San Bruno Mountain plants for habitat restoration projects on the mountain and for native gardens in the Bay Area. While the nursery is not open to the public, it holds seasonal Native Plant Sales where the public is welcome. Funds raised support the nursery's operation and the overall stewardship program. Mission Blue Nursery is located off of Bayshore Blvd in Brisbane behind the Brisbane Fire Department. Follow the signs on Bayshore Blvd. For more information call the San Bruno Mountain Watch office at 415-467-6631 or visit http://www.mountainwatch.org.

Favorite or New Plant

Impatiens
Known as "Busy Lizzie's" in England, impatiens are a favorite annual plant. No other blooming plant delivers so much color over such a long period of time with a minimum of care. Impatiens should be planted in the shade, although in cooler climates they will withstand full sun. One thing they do require is ample water. Even if you have grown impatiens, you may not realize that the green seedpods are a delight to "pop" when they're ripe. (This is how they spread their seeds in nature.) Look for the pods toward the end of summer.
