Other than orchids, the Gesneriad family most likely offers the widest range of flowering houseplants. The best known members include African violets, gloxinias, lipstick plants, and cape primroses. One of the best overviews of this family is The Gesneriad Reference Web. This is one of those labor of love websites by an individual, in this case a gentleman named Ron Myhr. The site has at its core over 1,500 images of Gesneriad species and cultivars, along with brief descriptions. In addition, you'll find general culture information, antique prints of gesneriads, articles about gesneriads, and links to other related websites.
