Favorite or New Plant

Stella d'Oro Daylily
Stella d'Oro daylily makes an attractive planting with its mounds of arching, grasslike foliage, but steals the show with its yellow trumpet blooms. The flowers emerge in late spring and continue through the summer in my garden. It's one of the most dependable daylilies, tolerating a wide range of growing conditions. Stella d'Oro grows best in fertile, compost-enriched soil that is moisture retentive but well drained. Although daylilies will grow in some shade, you will get more flowers from plants that receive full sun for at least half the day.

Basic Plant Propagtion
In this hand-on class, Joy Creek Nursery plant propagator Leslie Gover's goal is to demonstrate how plants reproduce so that home gardeners understand the best methods to use to refresh treasured plants in their own gardens. Leslie will cover the fundamental steps for making and growing-on rooted cuttings and also show how to scale lilies and how to perform basic seed collecting, storing and sowing. Spend the day learning about tools, techniques, timing and more; then take your own "propagules" home. The class will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 1 pm. Fee is $10. Joy Creek Nursery is located at 20300 NW Watson Rd., Scappoose, OR. For more information, call 503-543-7474 or visit www.joycreek.com.
