Hudson Gardens Victoria Water Lily Pond
Hudson Gardens & Event Center celebrates its 17th season as a premier location to see an outdoor display of plants that can be grown successfully in our area. Take a leisurely trip through the many gardens, including the Victoria Water Lily Pond, constructed in 2012 and designed to house a collection of these lilies native to the Amazon. The Victorias at Hudson Gardens produce massive leaves with diameters of 3 feet or more. In late July/early August, the Victoria plants bloom, producing night-blooming flowers that appear for only 48 hours. During each flower's bloom cycle, the blossom changes overnight from female to male. The Victoria Water Lily Pond measures 25 feet in diameter and is surrounded by a sunken brick paver plaza complete with sitting spots and lighting for night-time viewing. Hudson Gardens is located at 6115 South Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, Colorado. For more information, call (303) 797-8565 or visit http://www.hudsongardens.org/.

Clever Gardening Technique

Homemade Slug Bait
They're back! Slimy slugs are busy devouring young, tender foliage.
They hide during the day, but make sneak attacks at dusk, stripping foliage. Here's an environmentally friendly recipe to attract and trap slugs.

1 cup warm water
1 teaspoon raw sugar
1/4 teaspoon yeast

Dissolve the raw sugar in water and add the yeast, stirring until thoroughly blended. Put this liquid bait in shallow containers, such as empty tuna cans or yogurt cups. Bury the containers in the ground to their rims. The slugs can't resist and will climb in and drown. Discard slug bounty daily and add new bait as needed.
