Web Finds

Local Food Websites
Visit Local Harvest to find farmers' markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area. Click on "products" to read a brief description about various farm products, then search for suppliers. There's also a new restaurant section, featuring establishments that specialize in regional favorites. (Encourage your local restaurants to add their listings!)

Another interesting site is Food Routes, a project of FoodRoutes Network, a national nonprofit that supports organizations working to rebuild local, community-based food systems. According to their Web site, "It has been estimated that in the US the average item of food has traveled 1500 to 2500 miles to reach your dinner table." Browse the site for lots of interesting articles, facts, and inspiration for supporting your local farmers.
