Grow LA Victory Garden Classes
On Saturdays or Sundays in April, May, and June, at 25 locations around Los Angeles County, University of California Master Gardeners will teach four weekend workshops with lots of hands-on, get-your-fingernails-dirty activities included. Classes are open to everyone who wants to learn the basics of gardening. After the class session, continue learning and sharing with your new gardening friends as part of our local Neighborhood Garden Circles, totaling some 2000 gardeners who've taken the classes! For class schedule, see http://celosangeles.ucanr.edu/Common_Ground_Garden_Program. To get onto the mailing list, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Clever Gardening Technique
Use Old Silverware as Transplanting Aids
An old fork or spoon will separate and lift seedlings gently from flats, and the handle (or a pencil or ice cream stick) can be used to ease transplants from individual growing pockets in cell packs -- all with very little damage to the tender roots.
