Colorado State University Extension
The Colorado State University Extension Sevice website is a wealth of information on all aspects of gardening, including houseplants. The Managing Houseplant Pests fact sheet gives good information, with plenty of photos to help in identification. It tells you how to control pests culturally first, and then it gives a list of safe products and how they work to control pests. This is the place to go to first when you discover that something just "isn't right" with your plant.

Seed Saving Extravaganza
On Sunday, February 24, at the Chicago Botanic Garden, Shannon Carmody, program manager at Seed Savers Exchange (SSE), in Decorah, Iowa, will present All Things Seed Saving, an entire day of seed saving information. Beginning with a seed-saving primer to discuss the essentials of seed saving, a workshop on planning the garden for seed saving follows. Carmody will include explanations of some of the basic concepts of open-pollinated and hybrid seed, plant taxonomy, reproductive structures, and pollination methods. She will also do a formal presentation of stories behind some of the favorite heirloom vegetable and flower seeds in the SSE collection. The talk will be followed by a seed swap to which gardeners are invited to bring saved or leftover vegetable, flower, and herb seed packets to share and swap with other gardeners. Ongoing demonstrations will feature starting seeds indoors, germination testing, and seed saving.
