Northwest Flower and Garden Show
It seems early to be talking about a February event, but this is THE event of the year for gardeners, and discount tickets are available if you order now. This year the Northwest Flower and Garden Show will be held February 20-24 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.

The show is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the theme "The Silver Screen Takes Root -- Gardens Go Hollywood." You'll find six acres of spectacular display gardens, free seminars by local experts, and 350 exhibitors featuring a variety of gardening gear, plants, and unique art for the home and the garden. There's also a feature called "The Play Garden" with hands-on activities for kids and parents, providing an opportunity to learn together.

For more information visit their website at http://www.gardenshow.com/the-show/, or give them a call: (253) 756-2121.

Books

Dirt Cheap Gardening
In her book The Dirt Cheap Green Thumb: 400 Thrifty Tips For Saving Money, Time, and Resources as you Garden (Storey Publishing; 2009), Rhonda Massingham Hart provides money and time-saving recommendations for selecting the best growing site, sowing seeds, caring for plants, and words of advice on harvesting. This book covers everything you might want to grow, indoors and out, including vegetables, flowers, houseplants, and landscape foliage. Follow her worthwhile instructions and you'll become a successful, if frugal, gardener.
