Growing Sprouts
If you are not already a fan of the benefits of sprouts, Sprouts: The Miracle Food: The Complete Guide to Sprouting by Steve Meyerowitz (Sproutman Publications, 1998) will win you over. His conversational style and extensive information about all types of sprouts will give you everything you need to begin an indoor garden for health. And his silly puns make it even more fun. This is truly the best book out there to get you started on growing your own healthful sprouts. (Do be aware, however, that raw and lightly cooked sprouts have been associated with outbreaks of food-borne illnesses. The U.S. Department of Health recommends that children, the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with weakened immune systems should avoid eating raw sprouts of any kind (including alfalfa, clover, radish, and mung bean sprouts).
