Rodale's Vegetable Garden Problem Solver
For me, homegrown vegetables are a joy. How did your garden grow this year? If you didn't have quite the success you expected, consider picking up a copy of Rodale's Vegetable Garden Problem Solver by Fern Marshall Bradley (Rodale Books, 2007, $21.99). It's a well-organized, authoritative guide to growing more than 60 vegetables, with an emphasis on avoiding problems before they appear. Almost any vegetable garden dilemma you may encounter is covered in this book.

Vinegar for Weed Control
I prefer not to use herbicides for weed control. If you share my concern, try cider vinegar to kill those annual weeds. Sprayed on the foliage, vinegar dissolves the cuticle of the leaf, which causes the weed to dry out. Vinegar is not as effective on perennial weeds. The spray may kill the foliage but the roots simply send out new shoots and leaves. But on annuals it works really well.
