Tending Your Garden
If you're good at purchasing plants but not so good at taking care of them, look to Gordon and Mary Hayward's Tending Your Garden (W.W. Norton & Company, 2007) as your guide. This book gives step-by-step advice on the tasks required for every garden season, from planting to pruning, as well as how to think in terms of long-range strategies. Carefully organized and fully illustrated with engaging photographs of the Hayward's home garden, the book gives you a real sense of learning hand-in-hand from the experts.

Favorite or New Plant

Geranium 'Rozanne'
Flower color is a challenge in the shade garden, but Geranium 'Rozanne' offers brilliant violet-blue blooms in part shade with repeat bloom periods throughout the growing season. Named the Perennial Plant of the Year in 2008, 'Rozanne' is both low maintenance and relatively pest and disease free. The plant is heat tolerant but likes adequate moisture, however, so irrigate during drought and cover roots with a light mulch.
