Live! Great Blue Heron Nest at Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Five nestlings were counted as hatched from April 27 to May 2. Last week around midnight, I watched four beaked hatchlings peeking from the nest then nestling into each other at All About Birds. There's also a moderated chat box where viewers discuss the chicks' progress and more. Another option is to follow the CornellHerons Twitter feed. Enjoy!!!

The Heirloom Life Gardener
Jere and Emilee Gettle's The Heirloom Life Gardener: The Baker Creek Way of Growing Your Own Food Easily and Naturally (Hyperion of Harper Collins, New York, 2011, $29.99), written in collaboration with Meghan Sutherland, is a delightful read, as well as an excellent gardening resource. The Gettles live their passion for grow-your-own-food, including heirloom seed collecting worldwide, farming, and sharing their hard-earned experience and knowledge. The book contains beautiful photos, fun and heartwarming stories, and an A to Z Growing Guide. It is a treasure I enjoy reading and referencing often.
