Denver Gold Columbine
If you've had trouble growing columbines, be sure to try the Denver Gold Columbine (Aquilegia chrysantha). The large yellow flowers are showy in the garden, blooming in May through June. When deadheaded, it will often flower again later in summer. I've grown this durable columbine in my garden and found it does well in average garden soil and partial shade to full sun.

Clever Gardening Technique

Plug Drainage Holes with Screening
Recycle old window screen mesh as covering for drainage holes. Cut screening into square pieces sized to cover the hole or holes in the bottom of pots before filling with potting soil. This window screen mesh will prevent soil from falling out but will still allow water to drain properly.
