Tool or Gardening Product

Fiskars UpRoot Weed & Root Remover
If you've spent a lot of time on hands and knees pulling weeds in your lawn you'll appreciate the concept of this handy tool. The UpRoot Weed & Root Remover by Fiskars has a long handle so you won't have to bend over. Just press the long serrated claws at the end of the tool into the ground over the weed. Then as you lean the handle back the claws pinch together to grab and pull up the weed. Push the handle forward to eject the weed into a trash can. A simple and fast way to pull a lot of weeds in a hurry. This product works best on larger, established weeds with more of a root system.

Clever Gardening Technique

Confine Spreading Plants
Plants that spread by runners or rhizomes can be kept in bounds by placing a solid wall around them to define the area you want them to stay within. A section of metal flashing such as roofers use can be buried to create a vertical underground wall to stop rhizomes from moving outside the boundary. Leave a few inches above ground and periodically trim any runners that may be attempting to "jump the wall" and put down roots on the other side! An alternative technique is to take a very large, black nursery pot and remove the bottom. Then sink it into the ground to create a round area to confine a spreading plant.
