"Autumn Blush' Tickseed
Coreopsis, also called tickseed, is a hardy perennial that blooms prolifically through summer's heat, thriving in full sun and almost any kind of soil as long as it is well-drained. Hybrid Coreopsis 'Autumn Blush' is unique in that the yellow blooms with maroon centers transform into a pink blush as weather cools in late summer and fall. Additionally, the ferny foliage makes a great contrast in the perennial bed.

Clever Gardening Technique

Start Early Salad Greens
For extra early salad greens, recycle a 3-4 foot section of rain gutter into an indooor seed-starting tray. Fill it with a soilless growing mixture. Plant seeds of lettuce, spinach, arugula, and other mixed greens on the surface of the mix and water in well. Keep seedlings under fluorescent lights for 12 hours a day. Then when the ground thaws in early spring, dig a shallow trench and gently slide out the entire row of started seedlings.
