The Gulf Coast Garden and Patio Show
Please join me on March 2, 3, and 4, at the Mississippi Coliseum in Biloxi. This event is the premier garden event on the Coast held each year by the fine growers, retailers, and educators of the MS Nursery and Landscape Association. I will be speaking each morning to introduce you to some of the amazing plants at the show and tell you how to grow them. Come for the shopping and stay for the seminars, and please let me know you read about the event in this column.

Books

Growing Fruits and Berries
So many gardening books that cross my desk have no relevance to our regions and I seldom read them. I knew the reputations of these authors, however, so gave a closer look to The Fruit Gardener's Bible by Lewis Hill and Leonard Perry. The late Mr. Hill was distinguished for both growing and writing, but was a Vermont native. His colleague Mr. Perry is known for his thorough coverage of subjects and he has updated and expanded Hill's classic work to make it useful to us all. My first clue was the full page devoted to low chill apples for warm climates. There is more than our favorite 'Anna' in this category and you should take a look. The Fruit Gardener's Biblecomes from Storey Publishing, 2011, $24.95) in trade paperback.
