Great Backyard Bird Count
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where birds are across the continent. This year the free event is February 17 through February 20. Anyone can participate, no matter your level of bird-watching expertise. All it takes is 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as your like each day of the event. You'll be benefiting scientists in learning more about bird populations and migration. To find out more about the event and participating, visit www.birdsource.org/gbbc/howto.html.

Tool or Gardening Product

BioMarker
Labeling plants helps you keep track of what you're growing, which, ultimately, makes you a better gardener. You can make labels for free out of old window blinds, but you might want something longer lasting. A new option is BioMarker Plant Markers. These are eco-friendly items made from a blend of recycled plastic and corncob fiber and will last for many growing seasons. The BioMarker kit includes weather-proof peel-off labels that can be printed with a laser printer or written on directly with the included grease pencil. Three colors are available, light stone, medium brown, and dark green, or choose the variety pack. A set of 15 BioMarkers sells for $29.95 or a set of 30 sells for $49.95.
