Tacoma Home and Garden Show
Need to find that final touch for your home renovations, want to attend a seminar and learn about roses or pond design, or just want to check out the latest and greatest kitchens and bathrooms? The Tacoma Home and Garden Show is the best Tacoma January event for you with an array of seminars, showcases, and giveaways. The Adair Home Giveaway is the biggest of these, with one lucky show attendee winning a one-bedroom home for free. Seminars feature topics on a wide range of gardening, remodeling, and eco-friendly home topics.

The show will be held at the Tacoma Dome from January 26-30. Regular admission is $10, discounted to $ 8 for seniors, and children 16 and under can get in free. For more information, visit their website at http://www.otshows.com/ths/.

Favorite or New Plant

Dianthus
Pinks (Dianthus species and cultivars) are old-fashioned favorites grown for their pink, red, white, and multi-colored, often spice-scented flowers. My favorites are the smaller varieties that form compact mounds of semi-evergreen foliage. Dianthus prefers full sun but will tolerate morning shade. Well-drained soils are essential for good growth. To prolong blooming of the taller species, deadhead the blooms as they fade. With that said, I often leave a few flower seed heads alone and they self-sow, which helps perpetuate my colorful garden of dianthus.
