Clever Gardening Technique

Succession Planting
Sunlight is at a premium in my new garden, so I'm thinking about ways to maximize the yield of vegetable crops with succession planting. There are four basic approaches: planting crops one after the other spring through fall, such as following fast-maturing Asian greens with heat-loving tomatoes and then kale after temperatures drop; planting small amounts of the same crop, such as lettuce, at timed intervals; planting two crops together that will mature one after the other, with harvest of the early crop providing more space for the second (also called interplanting), such as a combo of radishes and carrots; and planting several varieties of a single crop with varying maturity dates; both sweet corn and peas are good possibilities for this technique.
