Latex paint helps reduce sunscald
The trunks of fruit trees are vulnerable to a condition called "sunscald," which splits and cracks the young tender bark. A safe, easy and effective way to prevent this is painting the young trunks with white interior latex paint, which is water-based. The light color of this whitewash reflects the sun's rays and reduces the damage-causing sudden temperature changes that occur in late fall and winter.
