The Magic of Lanterns 2009
From September 11 to November 1, 2009 the Montreal Botanical Garden will be presenting The Magic of Lanterns, a celebration of light in the Montreal Botanical Garden's Chinese Garden. This year's theme is traditional Chinese astronomy. The Botanical Garden will remain open until 9 p.m. daily during this celebration. Gold Medal Plants
Since 1978 the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has given "Gold Medal Plant Awards" to woody plants "of outstanding merit," including disease and pest resistance, ease of growing, and appeal through many seasons. The winners for 2009 are Emerald Pagoda Snowbell (Styrax japonicus, 'Sohuksan'), Florida Anise (Illicium floridanum 'Halleys Comet'), Red Beauty Holly (Ilex 'Rutzan Red Beauty), Shore Juniper (Juniperus conferta Silver Mist'), and Tom's Compact Summersweet (Clethra alnifolia 'Compacta').
