One you've been bitten by the rose-garden bug, you'll want to visit the American Rose Society Web site, filled with lots of information and fun facts about roses and growing them. Check out the ratings of thousands of commercially available varieties for landscape uses and container gardening.

Favorite or New Plant

Blue Hill Salvia
One of my favorite perennials with violet-blue, spiky flowers is the Salvia x sylvestris 'Blauhugel', or 'Blue Hill' salvia. It is hardy to zone 4 and grows to a height of 15 to 20 inches depending upon exposure and soil conditions. Preferring well drained soils and a sunny location, it is a drought-enduring perennial that the honeybees love to visit. If you have deer and rabbits around, they don't seem to bother this perennial.
