Red Hot Poker
One of my favorite flowers is red hot poker(Kniphofia hybrids). As the name implies, the bloom resembles a red hot poker. This perennial is quite hardy and makes a bold statement in a vertical growth habit in the perennial garden much like an ornamental grass, but with the stately blossoms. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun. In addition to the traditional red, hybrids are available in yellow, orange, and creamy white variations.
