A Gardener's Guide to Frost, by Philip Harnden (Willow Creek Press, 2003; $24.50) is part science and part practical advice. Harnden delves into the different types of frost and explains the conditions that make frost likely. Then he suggests how gardeners can extend the season, spring and fall.
