Favorite or New Plant

Trumpet Vine
Create a cooling effect on a south-facing trellis with the hummingbird or trumpet vine. This hardy and fast-growing vine will cover a trellis in a few growing seasons. By the second year it will be covered with bright orange trumpet flowers that invite the hummingbirds. Plant trumpet vine in a well-drained soil and apply mulch around the base to help retain uniform moisture. The old-fashioned variety, Campsis radican, is perhaps the hardiest.

Clever Gardening Technique

Epsom Salts for Roses
Give your rose bushes a little boost with a few tablespoons of Epsom salts. The magnesium sulfate is a good soil buffer and makes micronutrients more readily available. You will also see more basal shoots grow and develop from the graft union. Sprinkle Epsom salts around the root system and water in.
