Balfour's Touch-Me-Not Impatiens
In shady woodland spots, Balfour's Touch-Me-Not, aka poor man's orchid (Impatiens balfourii Hook. f.) is a subtle, delicate bloomer with pink-tipped white flowers. It's an annual jewelweed, 18 to 24 inches tall and wide. It self seeds as the pods burst open when touched; hence, the name "impatiens."

Lost Ladybug Project
Find 'em, shoot 'em, and send 'em. This summer YOU can help with the Lost Ladybug Project! Cornell University wants help keeping track of (and preserving) native nine-spotted and two-spotted ladybugs. To be able to help save native ladybug species, Cornell scientists need detailed information on which species are still out there and how many individuals are around. Entomologists can identify different species but need children to be their legs, hands and eyes. So ... look for ladybugs, then e-mail pictures of them to Cornell. Though very interested in rare species, entomologists appreciate any photos (in focus) with time, date, location details. Learn, have fun, and help save these important beneficial insects.
