Deer & Rabbit Repellent
Natural Pest Solutions Inc.'s Deer & Rabbit Solution concentrate smells invitingly like cinnamon to me. So I was skeptical of its claim to repel deer. In my experience and that of two garden clients who've used it for several months, this spray does discourage deer browse on perennials and shrubs. The label recommends it for edible crops, fruit, and forest trees, and says it repels groundhogs and squirrels. Inert ingredients are vinegar, guar gum, eggs, onion, water, coffee. One gallon of super concentrate Deer Solution makes up to 10 gallons of spray to cover 40,000 sq. ft. Though it's touted to last 100 days, in my experience one thorough spraying stopped deer damage for about a month. Comes in a functional pump spray bottle with two bottles concentrate ($16.99) to make 32 oz. solution. Or 1 gallon refill at $30 to $35. Or $129.99 for 4 gallons concentrate.

Supertunia
For vibrant color in containers all summer, Supertunias are a must. These small, self-cleaning hybrid petunias are from 6 to 12 inches tall and wide and come in single, double, and mini flower forms. They prefer full sun and cascade nicely.
