Tom Ogren has compiled a list of plants, rated on a scale of 1 to 10, that cause allergic reactions in his book, Allergy-free Gardening (Ten Speed Press, 2000; $29.95). His scientific explanations of why people are suffering more from allergic reactions today makes for compelling reading. Every city park and every landscape desiger should have a copy of this book for reference.
