Lakeshore Avenue Plant Exchange
I love the idea of a neighborhood plant exchange! Do you have plants you must prune or cull? How about trading your excess with others at a plant exchange? The Lakeshore Avenue Free Neighborhood Plant Exchange will take place on Saturday, March 29, at 3811 Lakeshore Ave., in Oakland, from noon to 4 p.m. All types of plants are welcome -- small cuttings up to full size, seeds, bulbs, and clippings. Bring your plants and pick up new ones. If you don't have time to repot donations, bags and newspaper will do. If you have plants too large to move by yourself, someone may be able to help.

Questions, comments, ideas, list your plants, want to help? Call (510) 866-8482 or e-mail: plantexchange@hotmail.com. For more info, go to: http://www.plantexchange.wordpress.com.

Tool or Gardening Product

Weed Hound
I know, it looks too good to be true. As seen on TV, the Weed Hound garden cultivator is an excellent tool that breaks up heavy soil as it cultivates. The sharp tines bite into the earth with ease, and after a simple twist of the T-bar handle, it has done the work of a shovel with much less effort. It is also great for loosening young weeds so you can rake, or pick, them out of the soil. I was skeptical at first, but I'm now a devout fan of the Weed Hound Garden Cultivator!
