University of Iowa Transplant Guide
This handy Guide to Sowing Vegetable Transplants from Iowa State University is specifically set up for most of our popular vegetables. All you need to finish planning your calendar of when to sow seeds for transplants is the average last frost date in your garden area. Then you can sit down with a calendar and put everything on it to get you from seeding to harvest.

Tool or Gardening Product

Wheel Hoe
If you have a large garden, the wheel hoe is a wonderfully efficient tool that allows you to get rid of some of the clutter of storing multiple tools. This is a hand-pushed hoe that lets you cultivate or make furrows just like a tractor would, only on a smaller scale. You can purchase oscillating knives, a cultivator, a stirrup hoe, and other attachments to fit on the rolling chassis -- the perfect way to keep your garden in good form. This tool is a bit pricey ($300 to $400), but it will make so many of your other tools obsolete. It's available from Seeds of Change (http://www.seedsofchange.com/) and Gundaroo Tiller (http://www.allsun.com.au/index.html).
