Gardeners often spend lots of time trying to figure out what's eating their plants. Even when you find the insect, it can be hard to identify. The BBC's Pest and Disease Identifier is a pretty terrific tool. The photos are detailed and the variety of species included is unparalleled in such a friendly format.
Favorite or New Plant
Penta
Penta (Penta lanceolata), also called star flower or star cluster, blooms nearly nonstop in sun or shade. The flowers will be more bountiful in sunny sites, and the plants more compact and neater-looking. But beds or pots in full sun will need water more regularly than those provided some shade. In solid shades and bicolors, put penta on your list. For a bold contrast, mix penta with daisies and add white zinnias in summer.
