Picking a Winning Rose
Have you ever wondered what makes one rose a winner over another when they all look so gorgeous? Attend this rose and arrangement show on November 24 and hear experts explain judging criteria in 15-minute sessions (held only at 1, 2, and 3 p.m.). Rose entries will be accepted from 6 to 10 a.m., judging takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the public can view the entries from 1 to 4:30. Held at the Glendale, Arizona, Civic Center, 5750 West Glenn Drive. Miniature roses will be sold and an arts and crafts fair featuring items with a rose theme will be open from 10:30 to 4:30. Sponsored by the West Valley Rose Society. Free admission. For more info, call (602) 971-0179, or e-mail: htroses3@cox.net.

Tool or Gardening Product

Diggit Garden Tool
This hand tool has a long, narrow blade good for digging deep holes to plant bulbs or tackling weeds' root systems. The handle is soft and comfortable to grip and brightly colored so you won't set it down and forget about it. I use the notched 1-inch markers on the blade to gauge planting depth for bulbs. Two styles are available with blades made from either galvanized steel or polished stainless steel, both heavy duty. They are available online at: http://www.diggitinc.com.
