Favorite or New Plant

Hoya 'Shooting Star'
A visit to an old friend with a hoya 'Shooting Star' reminded me how beautiful this plant is, and how generous this species can be. Thick leaves hold water well and grow vigorously with little care from the gardener except a bigger pot occasionally. The "stars" of this plant are its flowers: star-shaped and borne in clusters that hang as if they weighed 10 pounds. Each flower has a star shape in its center, too. Give it three stars!

Stepping Stones
Making your own stepping stones is sloppy good fun, and can begin with a simple square frame and a bag of concrete. If you want to make your own but want to produce consistent stones for a particular project, plastic molds are the way to go. Look for those made from recycled plastic.
