Backyard Habitat
As gardening chores ease, how about creating a backyard habitat for wildlife? This Animal Planet Backyard Habitat Web site (which partners with the Discovery Channel TV show) includes 1- to 3-minute video clips about specific projects. TV hosts Molly and David make everything look easy and fun, from making a Purple Martin nest to building a snake habitat.
Also check out National Wildlife Federation's Certified Wildlife Habitat site.

Tomatoberry Cherry Tomatoes
After mice ate my tomato seedlings this spring, I thought I was out of luck. Lisa at Johnny's Selected Seeds mailed me a replacement packet, though, and four of those protected seedlings made it into a huge black pot for the summer. What a sweet harvest! The delicious, sweet 'Tomatoberry' F1 cherry tomatoes are still ripening. I eat them right off the vine. A tasty treat while I'm watering or weeding nearby perennials and herbs.
