Tool or Gardening Product

Oscillating Hoe
You can cover a lot of ground quickly with an oscillating hoe. This hoe has a stirrup-like strap of metal sharpened on both edges, which pivots slightly back and forth at the point of attachment. Also called a stirrup, scuffle, action, or hula hoe, it's used in a push and pull action, rocking back and forth across the soil. It is not the precision weeding tool that some hoes are, but it's very efficient and great for cultivating as you weed.

Clever Gardening Technique

Sun Sense
Summer sun can be dangerous. We gardeners tend to lose track of time as we work in the garden. Don't wait until the heat catches up to you. Drink plenty of water every 15 minutes whether you are thirsty or not. Limit your outdoor work to the cooler morning and late-day hours. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and a wide-brimmed hat to protect your skin. Use a sun block product with a high SPF number on all exposed skin areas. Sun damage to the skin is cumulative and nothing to take lightly! Pace yourself. There is plenty of time to get it all done.
