Butterfly Exhibit
Live butterfly exhibits have become extremely popular at botanical gardens, providing opportunities to see not only the adults but caterpillars and pupal stages (when the caterpillar wraps itself in a chrysalis to prepare for metamorphosis). The Butterfly Pavilion at the Albuquerque Biological Park (including zoo, aquarium and botanic garden) is open every weekday through August, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The butterfly exhibit will close September 30. Admission is included with regular garden entry fees: Adults, $7; Children 3 to 12 and seniors, $3. Details on the park are at: http://www.cabq.gov/biopark/.

Clever Gardening Technique

Picking a Ripe Cantaloupe
When cantaloupe are ripe, they will easily detach or "slip" from the stem with a gentle push or pull from the gardener. If you have to apply strength or cut it, the fruit won't be as sweet. Have patience!
