North American Butterfly Association
In addition to providing photos to aid in identification, regional chapter contacts, FAQs, art and photo contests, checklists, and recent sightings, the nonprofit North American Butterfly Association organizes butterfly counts around the country, with volunteers counting species sightings on a specific day. Download forms and information in advance to familiarize yourself with the process, and click on your state on the map for past counters.

Clever Gardening Technique

Tag Flower Colors to Save Seeds
If you have multiple flower colors and a memory akin to Swiss cheese, mark plants when they are in bloom. Tie an appropriately colored piece of string or yarn around the stem. As flowers dry and go to seed, you'll be able to collect and save seeds by color if that is important to you for next year's color scheme.
