National Pollinator Week
Last fall, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution designating June 24-30, 2007, as National Pollinator Week as a way to increase awareness about pollinators and the important role they play in ecosystem health and agriculture. They also unveiled the design for the 2007 U.S. Postal Service postage stamps honoring pollinators, which will be issued on Monday, June 25th. View the new pollinator stamp at the U.S. Postal Service Web site, http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/2007stamps/welcome.htm.

Pruning Fruit Trees
There are lots of reasons to prune fruit trees: to manage size, for optimum fruit production, and to minimize disease and insect problems, to name a few. For a detailed look at how to prune your fruit trees, read the National Gardening Association article Pruning Fruit Trees, by Lee Reich. The article explains the "whys" as well as the "hows" of pruning, and includes illustrations.
