Southern California Coastal & Inland Valleys
To identify who's been flittering in your garden this summer, check out the Butterflies of North America Web site at www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/distr/lepid/bflyusa/bflyusa.htm. It has great photos, including shots of the eggs, larvae, and pupae of some butterflies. With this information you'll know which creatures to leave alone in your garden.
Shows & Events
ArborFest and Plant Sale
ArborFest at the California State University at Fullerton Arboretum, October 14-15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is one of the big fall events in our area. This event, and its spring mate, Green Scene, are THE shows to bring the whole family to for plant-oriented fun. Exhibits, demonstrations, and entertainment are plentiful; and the plants and crafts are of superior quality and quantity. I go every year and always come home with a wagonful of goodies for friends' gardens as well as my own. Admission is $5, children 17 and younger free. For more information and a schedule of events, call 714-278-4790.
