Books

Gardening on Hard Surfaces
I received the Timber Press catalog and was intrigued by this particular title: Gardening on Pavement, Tables and Hard Surfaces, by George Schenk (Timber Press, 2004; $29.95). When the book arrived, I was delighted! Schenk has opened a whole new world to gardening. Driveways, parking lots, concrete backyards, and fallen tree stumps are all growable! You will be astounded when you see what he can do with a paved sidewalk! Schenk provides lists of suitable shallow-rooted plants, glorious photographs to inspire, step-by-step instructions, and a garden tour in photos where you can see the art put into practice. All is interspersed with subtle wit and humor.
