Shows & Events

Garden Centers of America Fashion in Bloom
Once limited to horticultural professionals, this event is now open on Sept. 23 to home gardeners, master gardeners, garden club members, and municipal and community staff. Thirty companies have this "show and tell" to introduce their latest, hottest plants -- shrubs, perennials, trees, vines, and tropicals. Conard-Pyle Company in Jennersville, PA; Homestead Growers in Davidsville, MD; American Horticultural Society in Alexandria, VA, are three of six locations to visit. Each location has a different theme. For more details and to register, see http://www.fashioninbloom.com.

Tool or Gardening Product

Atlas Nitrile Touch Gloves
For an all-around, washable gardening glove, the Atlas Nitrile Touch Glove has grown on me. It's lightweight; skin-thin for weeding, planting, and deadheading; yet strong enough to survive a gentle, accidental pruner's snip. This is the very thin type, not the bulkier style. Sizes are small, medium, and large; colors are blue, pink, electric chartreuse, and easy-to-find-in-the-yard purple. Cost is about $12/pair.
