Backyard Wildlife Habitat
For 30 years the National Wildlife Federation's Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program has been helping people learn about the needs of wildlife and how to make their yards more friendly to birds and other animals. There's a lot of information on this site, including a step-by-step program to certify your property as a wildlife habitat.

Attracting Birds
National Audubon Society: The Bird Garden, by Stephen W. Kress (DK Publishing, 1995; $25.00), is a very useful and well-organized guide for helping you create a welcoming habitat for birds year-round. It includes recommendations for plants that provide food and cover for birds, as well as discussions of water, nesting sites, and other features that will help birds call your landscape home.
