Bird Walks
If you'd like to learn more about birds that might live nearby, Boyce Thompson Arboretum offers guided walks on alternate Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 19. Avian experts will teach basic bird identification as well as techniques for recognizing birds by their sounds. Free with admission to the arboretum (adults, $7.50; kids 5-12, $3), which is on Hwy 60 in Superior, AZ. Their Web site also contains postings of current bird sightings (http://ag.arizona.edu/bta).

Take a Class!
Many city water conservation departments offer free or inexpensive landscaping classes for the public. Now is a good time to check because many classes are held at the start of the cool planting season.
